A digital footprint is a collection of the traceable data created when you spend time online.

Your footprint contains both information you actively post online (called your “active digital footprint”) and personal data collected by websites, apps, and data brokers (also known as your “passive digital footprint”).

Here are some examples of what this data look looks like:
